BHAKTAPUR, City of Beauties

The medieval village of Bhaktapur, also known as Bhadgaon, was the city of beauties, and became a decisive commercial spot along the trade route between China, Tibet and India.

The third of the medieval state cities of the Kathmandu Valley, has always been described as the best preserved. Unfortunately the 2015 earthquake caused terrible damages, with entire streets of devastated traditional houses. Some temples also collapsed, and walking through its streets, the scars of disaster are still very visible.

However, there is still much to see, and remains the best example of a living museum, due to the number of temples and monuments, highlighting the wonder of its Durbar square, an impressive display of medieval architecture.
